From achieving first place in Scotland, to returning to Novi Pazar, and now facing a challenge in Poland—all in just nine months.

Slobodan Rubežić, a defender from Montenegro, has joined Korona in Kielce, a city that has gained recognition this century largely due to the success of its handball team, the 2016 European champions.

The young player, who has represented the Montenegrin national team in eight matches, comes to Korona from Aberdeen. He has signed a contract until 2028, with an option for an additional 12-month extension, as confirmed by the club.

“I am very excited and happy to have signed for Korona. I can’t wait to play in front of our fans,” Rubežić expressed on the club’s official website.

Rubežić made a significant impact while wearing the Aberdeen jersey during the first half of last season, as the illustrious Alex Ferguson’s club led the Scottish Premiership. However, things took a downturn later, leading to a breakdown in team dynamics and Rubežić’s eventual return to Novi Pazar on loan.

This summer, he rejoined Aberdeen’s training camp, impressing coach Jimi Telin, who, however, could not assure him of playing time.

“Since returning to training, he has made it clear that consistent playing time is crucial for him this season. Unfortunately, we cannot promise that, and this transfer provides him with the opportunity to be closer to home and focus on the next stage of his career. Slobodan has been a cherished member of the club, and we thank him for his hard work and professionalism during his time with us. We wish him every success,” Telin remarked, as reported by the BBC.

While Korona Kielce may not be a powerhouse in Polish football, it has been a consistent participant in the First League since 2005 when it first entered. The club’s most significant achievement came in 2007 when it reached the final of the domestic Cup.
