Illegal Parking Creates Challenges for Podgorica’s “Čistoća” Team

While Podgorica’s “Čistoća” lends assistance to the newly formed utility company in Zeta, it can now focus more on maintaining order within the capital.

“The Public Utility Company Zeta commenced operations on February 1st of this year; however, our company occasionally provides professional assistance as needed,” the company stated.

In the capital over the past week, several active fires have occurred, which, according to the managing company, Dennis Hot, has disrupted the usual schedule for street washing in Podgorica.

Article 14 of the Decision on Maintaining Cleanliness in Podgorica mandates that the relevant utility company shall wash the streets during the summer nights, specifically between 10 PM and 5 AM.

“Tasks are executed based on ground situational priorities; however, we note that illegally parked vehicles often impede smooth operations. We must emphasize that recent activities have deviated from the established schedule mainly due to the high number of fires in Podgorica, leading ‘Čistoća’ to allocate all available tanker trucks and resources to the Capital City Protection and Rescue Service,” they added.

As per the Utility Services Program of “Čistoća” for this year, the company possesses “a considerable fleet of vehicles, machinery, and equipment”.

According to a document passed by the Capital City Assembly last month, the company operates two electric sweepers and eight electric tricycles, along with one mobile vacuum cleaner.

This year, they requested that the Capital City provide several garbage trucks for emptying containers, including semi-underground and above-ground types, as well as forklifts and dump trucks.

The report on Podgorica’s “Čistoća” also highlights the need for a tanker truck.

“In drafting the Utility Services Performance Program for 2024, we expressed concerns about the vehicle availability for this category, and unfortunately, those concerns have been validated due to registration issues stemming from vehicle age, emissions, spare part availability, and stricter technical inspection criteria. Of the seven vehicles, only one is new; the rest are out of commission due to registration challenges. As a result, acquiring at least two larger-capacity tanker trucks is imperative. These trucks have been crucial for delivering water to areas without access during the summer and have supported fire engines during emergencies by washing streets nightly for nine months every year…,” stated “Čistoća”.
