Premier League Clubs Break Record with £2.37bn Spending Spree

Following Leeds’ acquisition of AC Milan midfielder Noah Okafor for £18 million, English Premier League clubs have collectively reached a historic total spending of £2.37 billion this summer, as reported by the BBC today.

This expenditure has eclipsed the previous record of £2.36 billion set during the summer of 2023. Notably, six clubs have surpassed their own spending records, including:

Brentford, which invested up to £42.5 million to sign Dang Ouattara from Bournemouth, while Bournemouth acquired Bafode Diakite for £34.6 million.

Newly promoted teams Burnley and Sunderland also made significant purchases, spending £25 million for Leslie Ugochukwu and £26 million (potentially rising to £30 million with bonuses) for Habib Djara.

Nottingham Forest marked a milestone by breaking their club transfer record twice – first for Dan Ndoje from Bologna and then for Omari Hutchison from Ipswich, at £37.5 million.

Meanwhile, Liverpool paid £100 million for Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen in June, with an additional £16 million in performance-related add-ons, setting a potential British transfer record that exceeds Chelsea’s previous high of £107 million for Enzo Fernandes in 2023.

With just ten days remaining before the transfer window closes, Premier League spending could rise even further.
