Party president Aleksa Bečić stated that a strong Democratic party is essential for a secure and stable Montenegro during the central celebration marking the tenth anniversary of Democratic Montenegro last night in Podgorica.
The event drew hundreds of party officials and members, reminiscing about the Founding Assembly held at Independence Square in 2015, as noted in a statement by the Democrats.
Bečić extended heartfelt thanks to all members who have contributed to the party’s growth and development through their dedication and hard work over the past decade.
A special certificate of appreciation was awarded to experienced officials and activists who dedicated their careers to cultivating the vision of a Democratic Montenegro and fostering a responsible and honorable political landscape in the country.
“To each of you who has invested a part of yourselves, who made personal sacrifices, who stood firm alongside your families through the years of trials, who bravely championed our cause. To those who faced every challenge—sun, snow, wind, and all the various socio-political difficulties in Montenegro—with pride. To those who have consistently shown courage against a dangerous system and organized crime. I wholeheartedly congratulate you all on this significant anniversary,” expressed the party president.
Bečić acknowledged everyone who has committed themselves to the pursuit of a free and just Montenegro.
“Thank you for being the backbone of the 44th Government today. Thank you for managing power honorably in 80% of Montenegro’s municipalities. Over the last year and a half of this government mandate, we have secured 36 councilor mandates, solidifying our position as the second strongest political party in Montenegro. Thank you for nurturing so many young talents, including the youngest presidents of municipalities, assemblies, directors, mayors, and managers,” he remarked.
The Democratic leader emphasized the challenges that lie ahead for both the party and the state, along with a clear commitment.
“We face many challenges; however, we have a singular mission: to cleanse Montenegro of crime and to usher our country into the European Union. The doors to the Union are open for us, and we must seize this opportunity. Remember, Montenegro needs a strong Democratic Montenegro. Without robust Democrats, there can be no secure and stable Montenegro,” he emphasized.
During the ceremony, Neven Gošović, a member of the Democratic Presidency, also addressed the attendees, reminding them that the party is founded on the belief in a free and just society, liberated from the oppressive systems that have long hindered progress.
“A democratic Montenegro wasn’t built overnight. It emerged from the extraordinary efforts of, above all, our youth, through persistent hard work and a strong belief in our mission,” he stated.
The Democrats declared that this celebration signifies the start of a widespread re-registration of members and the issuance of new membership cards throughout Montenegro, symbolizing their trust, loyalty, and commitment to achieving a transparent and free Montenegro.
