The Montenegrin cadet basketball team commenced its journey at the European Championship B Division with a successful win, overcoming the Portuguese team with a score of 63:59.
Under the guidance of Coach Mirko Proroković, the team exhibited resilience and discipline throughout the match. They established a significant lead during the second and third quarters, and despite Portugal’s attempts to rally in the closing moments, our team demonstrated composure and rightfully secured their initial victory.
Montenegro began strongly, winning the first quarter with a score of 14:13. They maintained momentum in the second period, extending their lead to eight points by halftime (33:25). Continuing in the same vein during the third quarter, they kept their advantage, and in the final quarter, they effectively thwarted Portugal’s efforts to catch up, ensuring the win.
Luka Malović was the standout performer for Montenegro, contributing 15 points to the match total. Marko Popović and Ilija Radović also shone, each adding 13 points, demonstrating that Montenegro has a robust roster capable of rising to the challenges of the championship.
Tonight, our team has another chance for victory as they face Sweden in the second round, scheduled for 21:00 PM.
A second win would significantly enhance our cadets’ chances of advancing to the next phase of the competition and potentially vying for a spot in the A division.
