German football star Thomas Müller made his MLS debut for his new club Vancouver late Sunday night into Monday, marking a new chapter after spending 25 years at Bayern Munich.
The World Cup champion, two-time Champions League winner, and 13-time Bundesliga champion, who joined Bayern at the age of 10, has chosen to conclude his career in North America at the age of 35 with the Canadian side Vancouver.
Müller entered the match in the 61st minute against Houston (ending in a 1-1 draw) to a warm standing ovation, just three days after his transfer was finalized. He has signed a contract that runs until the end of 2025, with an option for extension through 2026.
“I have mixed feelings. I scored on my first attempt and the crowd went wild, but unfortunately, the goal was disallowed for offside. Honestly, the result is disappointing,” Müller shared after the match.
Currently, Vancouver is positioned third in the Western Conference with 46 points, trailing behind leader San Diego by six points and just one point behind Minnesota.
