The Montenegro national water polo team has been placed in Group D alongside Spain, South Africa, and Serbia at the World Championship in Fukuoka, following today’s draw in Athens.
The “Sharks” found themselves in the third hat, sharing it with Brazil, France, and Australia.
“We certainly have a tough group. South Africa is the underdog, Spain is likely the top favorite, and we are familiar with Serbia. An extra challenge is that our group will compete against teams from another group that includes Croatia, Hungary, and host Japan. However, it could have been a bit easier,” commented coach Vladimir Gojković after the draw.
The World Cup is scheduled from July 17 to 29, with preparations set to start in less than a month.
“Now that we know our opponents, we have two months to prepare, beginning May 15. We aim to achieve a positive outcome,” Gojković added.
The group winners will advance directly to the quarterfinals, while the second- and third-placed teams will compete for a spot in the top eight.
