Vjosa Osmani was not included in the 2019 and 2020 agreements that led to the Washington Agreement, and it’s ridiculous to suggest otherwise, stated US official Richard Grenell today.
The US President Donald Trump’s special envoy dismissed the claims made by Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani, who accused Serbia of preparing for a potential conflict with Pristina.
“Shame on you, Vjosa Osmani, for distorting President Donald Trump’s words,” Grenell remarked on the X platform.
He noted that Trump was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in fostering peace between Belgrade and Pristina and for economic normalization during 2019 and 2020, when the Washington Agreement was signed at the White House.
“Osmani was not involved in that agreement. It’s absurd for her to now claim that something new has emerged,” Grenell concluded.
During her visit to Washington, Vjosa Osmani said that Trump played a crucial role in preventing “the escalation of tensions that Serbia was attempting at the Kosovo border.”
“It was his (Trump’s) personal intervention that stopped this escalation,” the Kosovo president stated during a discussion at the Hudson Institute in Washington.
KFOR has neither confirmed nor denied assertions that the Trump administration thwarted Serbia’s attack on Kosovo for an undisclosed period, as reiterated by the Kosovo President.
