The European Union has urged the Bosniak Party to take advantage of the upcoming Congress to initiate a significant change by parting ways with Andrija Mandić and the policies that, according to them, many Bosniaks view as foreign, unacceptable, and even humiliating, dangerous, and contrary to the values for which their people have historically fought.
“How can we justify that someone who champions European values shares the stage with an individual who does not renounce the title of Chetnik duke, nor feels the need to distance himself from the glorification of Pavle Đurišić and Dragoljub Mihailović? The recent statement from the President of the Parliament, asserting that he ‘does not oppose the remarks of Joanikije and Metodije regarding Đurišić and Mihailović’, is hardly surprising – it merely reaffirms the ongoing continuity. This continuity perpetuates a policy that insults Montenegro’s anti-fascist tradition and every Bosniak child who learns the harsh truths about genocide and suffering,” the statement emphasizes.
The European Union believes that the forthcoming Congress is a crucial opportunity for the Bosniak Party to showcase political accountability and consistency.
“To detach from the policies that most Bosniaks – at the very least – feel ashamed of. In reality, there is a growing rejection of these policies as incorrect and harmful. No position is worth more than the reputation of the people you represent. Hence, we trust that the Bosnian Serbs understand what actions they need to take – if they wish to gain credibility in front of their voters, rather than merely serving the authorities. The European Union remains steadfast in its commitment to a civil, anti-fascist, and European Montenegro. It is crucial to stay aligned with these values – now more than ever,” the EU statement concludes.
