Residents of Novi Sad gathered this evening on the street where Miloš Vučević, the president of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), resides. They chanted “Miloš, scum!”, “Serb, slave”, and “Thieves, thieves”, while also hurling eggs at several SNS members who were documenting the protest.

The demonstration was organized by the Students Blockading the University of Novi Sad in response to the acquittal of the SNS assailants who broke student Ana’s jaw, following a pardon from Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić. This occurred amidst ongoing detentions and political trials targeting the students.

A number of cyclists also participated in the rally.

The crowd yelled phrases like “Your hands are bloody!” and “Pump!”, while leaving messages on the pavement that read “Your hands are bloody” and “Thief”.

Members of the SNS, gathered at a nearby café, were mocked by the attendees who shouted, “Wow, thieves,” and “Slavery.”

The students’ protest announcement noted that “all SNS ‘hero’ thugs are free” and criticized the government for having “exceeded all deadlines”.

They insisted that the assailants were not heroes.

Furthermore, they highlighted that the Higher Court in Novi Sad has yet to rule on the request for the release from house arrest of six activists and students.

“Six activists have been unlawfully detained for five months, with another six in hiding, simply for standing up for truth and justice,” the students emphasized.
