The Montenegrin women’s handball team is set to compete tomorrow at 10:15 in Herning against the Czech Republic for seventh place in the World Championship taking place in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden.
After their loss to the Netherlands yesterday, the “Lionesses” are aiming for a victory against the Czech Republic, which would not only secure seventh place but also facilitate their path to qualify for the Olympic Games.
“We need to demonstrate our character and emerge victorious, primarily for ourselves. It’s crucial to conclude the championship on a positive note, especially since we’ve come a long way. We must put the past behind us and approach the game as if it were the final. The Czech Republic poses a challenge; they fight hard and give their all. Although it will be a tough match, we can achieve a favorable outcome with solid defense. Ending in seventh place is important for us, as it will lead to an easier qualifying group for the Olympics,” stated Matea Pletikosić.
Jelena Vukčević also believes that the “Lionesses” can secure another win with effective defense.
“Some girls are undoubtedly feeling fatigued physically and mentally, which is to be expected. The key is to stay healthy and finish the championship with a victory. I believe we are the favorites; the Czech Republic is unpredictable. Our 6:0 defense is performing well, and that will guide us to the win we desire. If we complement that with a strong offense, we should face no issues. A win would simplify our journey to Paris. I trust everything will fall into place, and we will secure the victory,” Vukčević shared.
As the youngest member of the national team, Vukčević expressed her sentiments.
“It’s been an incredible experience, and I’m leaving the championship with great memories. I’ve enjoyed the atmosphere with the senior national team, both on and off the field,” said Jelena Vukčević.
Germany and the Netherlands will compete for fifth place at 13:00.
The championship title will be contested between Norway and France at 19:00, while Sweden and Denmark will clash in the match for third place.
