This morning, Novi Sad Mayor Žarko Mićin expressed his hope that protests similar to the one held last night in front of his residence will not occur again. He noted, however, that he felt somewhat reassured by the absence of opposition politicians among the protesters.
“To be honest, it gives me a bit of comfort that I didn’t see any opposition councilors or MPs there. It appears that, as professional politicians, they recognize that demonstrating in front of a family home is inappropriate,” Micin stated during an interview with Pink television.
He emphasized that the protest would not deter him from his commitment to the city of Novi Sad and to “the citizens who didn’t engage in yesterday’s disruptive performances and harassment of him and his family.”
“It was a distressing experience. While I personally wasn’t as frightened, I was deeply concerned for my children and family. I hope such incidents never happen again, as this behavior is unacceptable and unprecedented,” remarked Micin, adding that he remains open to dialogue and will never shy away from addressing his constituents.
Micin described how demonstrators at his residence brought a doormat inscribed with “Mićin” and trampled it in front of the building. Additionally, they “stuck a toothpick” in the intercom, which rang incessantly.
In addition to protests at Micin’s building, a demonstration was also held on Tuesday outside the residence of the former mayor of Novi Sad, Miloš Vučević, who currently leads the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) and serves as an advisor to the President of Serbia.
