The President of Republika Srpska (RS), Milorad Dodik, stated today that the initial ruling from the Appellate Chamber of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina— sentencing him to one year in prison and imposing a six-year prohibition on holding public office—was a “wholly political decision.”
“This was entirely anticipated; it is a straightforward political decision and intent. It is an assault on Republika Srpska, targeted specifically at Milorad Dodik,” he remarked during a press conference in Banja Luka.
According to him, the purpose of the ruling is to achieve his “political removal.”
He expressed his refusal to acknowledge the verdict from the Court of BiH, which he claimed was established by the European Union (EU), led by the head of the EU Delegation to BiH, Luigi Sorrec.
Dodik indicated that the RS National Assembly would issue a statement regarding the verdict, which he would adhere to, respecting the decisions of the entity parliament.
He emphasized that under the “Constitution of BiH,” there are no prosecutorial offices, courts, or high representatives empowered to issue binding legal decisions, accusing High Representative Christian Schmidt of “instigating turmoil in BiH under external directives.”
“We possess the means to respond. We are engaged in discussions about a new Constitution and have enacted laws that we will reaffirm. We will not hesitate to safeguard the interests of RS and maintain peace,” Dodik asserted.
He urged the citizens of RS to remain composed, stating that early elections in RS would not occur while he remains as the entity president.
Dodik called upon the people of Republika Srpska and the police to prevent any early elections for the presidency of Republika Srpska from taking place.
“I anticipate complete support from Serbia; I will seek assistance from Russia and will communicate with the new American administration. This situation is disgraceful, not reflective of democracy; it merely aligns with the Muslim agenda to dominate BiH,” he declared.
He warned the Serbs in RS that “if they remain inactive, in five years they will face an exodus and become a significant minority unable to voice their political opinions.”
“The populace should not be fearful. No firearms will be discharged here. Our greatest strength lies in our unity. As far as we understand, I am not barred from continuing as the party leader (SNSD). We will stay united. After six years, when I am eligible to run again, we will have a different platform, should we decide to, but I hope that by then, BiH, at least the Court and Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, will no longer exist,” Dodik concluded.
