The Young “Sharks” Triumph Over Spain in World Cup Opener
The young water polo team from Montenegro had a strong beginning at the World Championship in Romania, securing a 10:8 victory against Spain in the opening round today.
Montenegro started the match exceptionally well, jumping to a 3:0 lead; however, the Spaniards fought back to equalize by halftime, leaving the score at 4:4 after two quarters.
The outcome was determined in the third quarter, prominently featuring Marko Mršić, who netted three consecutive goals. The “sharks” then surged ahead from a 5:5 tie to lead 8:5, maintaining this advantage without significant challenges until the final whistle.
Mršić recorded three goals, while Matija Sladović contributed two. Jovan Vujović, Danilo Stupar, David Stevović, Strahinja Gojković, and Neđo Baštrica each added one goal, with Neđo being named the player of the match.
Ilija Radović displayed remarkable form throughout the game.
Tomorrow, Montenegro will face Croatia at 18:30.
