Šola Begins with Ten Participants, Including Vuko Borozan
Just three days after the Montenegrin handball team’s stellar showing at the World Championship, the “lions” are set to reconvene.
Head coach Vlado Šola will conduct a roll call tomorrow at the “Voco” hotel as preparations kick off for the European Championship in Germany, commencing on January 10.
For the initial training session scheduled for 21:00, the Croatian coach is expected to have 18 out of the 10 players on the roster available, including goalkeeper Filip Borozan, wings Aleksandar Bakić, Mirko Radović, and Luka Radović, pivots Nemanja Grbović and Miodrag Ćorsović, as well as guards Bož Anđelić, Stevan Vujović, Vasilija Kaluđerović, and Vuk Borozan.
Once club obligations are fulfilled, the remaining 11 players vying for spots on the European Championship squad will join their teammates in the national team by year’s end.
An advantage this year is that the first segment of the Bundesliga wraps up earlier than usual. As a result, Nebojša Simić, Branko Vujović, Miloš Vujović, and Stefan Čavor will complete their club duties this weekend. The Swedish Ama goalkeeper, Nikola Matović, will be the last to arrive after his match on December 29.
On that day, Montenegro will engage in a friendly against North Macedonia in Stara Pazova, with plans to participate in a tournament in Poreč on January 4 and 5, where they will face hosts Croatia and Slovenia.
The “lions” will begin group C play in Munich on January 12 against Hungary, followed by a match against Iceland two days later, and a face-off with Serbia on January 16. The top two teams will advance to the main round.
