Promoting Sports: The Administration’s Top Priority
Podgorica is set to welcome another significant water polo event from July 8 to 16.
This year, it will host the European cadet championship, featuring the top 25 teams from across the continent.
“I am pleased that our administration is recognized for its commitment to enhancing water polo in Montenegro and providing opportunities for youth to engage in sports and improve their overall health,” stated Podgorica’s mayor, Olivera Injac, during a press conference.
She highlighted that the main objective of her administration is to promote sports and recreation within the capital.
“I hope we will foster fruitful partnerships and innovative ideas in the near future, yielding tangible results in these areas,” Injac added.
Đuro Marić, the president of the water polo and swimming association, remarked that the protocol signifies a continuation of, and the new administration’s commitment to, successful collaboration in hosting major international water polo events.
“Podgorica has the infrastructure to host international water polo competitions. It is the only city equipped with two swimming pools and hotel accommodations capable of catering to all those attending the championship,” Marić noted.
He is optimistic that the upcoming event will inspire more children in Podgorica to take up water polo.
“We anticipate around 600 competitors and delegation members, with an equal number of fans or family members accompanying them, staying in Podgorica for ten days. This totals approximately 1,200 visitors, marking a substantial boost for the economy and tourism in the capital,” Marić concluded.
