“Lionesses Head to Ulm for Olympic Visa”
The city is renowned for hosting the Olympic qualification tournament for women’s handball.
The “Lionesses” are set to head to Ulm with hopes of securing a spot in Paris, as determined by the Executive Board of the World Handball Federation (IHF).
This organization will take place in Germany, featuring the host nation, Montenegro, as well as Slovenia, where Dragan Adžić is the coach, and Paraguay.
The top two teams from the tournament, scheduled for April 11 to 14 next year, will qualify for the Olympic Games.
On Sunday, following the match against the Czech Republic for seventh place at the World Championship, Montenegrin handball coach Bojana Popović shared her hope for Montenegro to host the Olympic qualifiers. However, that hope was short-lived…
“It’s crucial to know where the tournament will be held, as the host typically has an advantage. I hope that both the Association and our country can unite to strive for this goal, making Montenegro the venue for the qualifications. That would be significant for us, as we know how vital our fans are. I urge everyone involved to support us and collaborate on this project,” stated the legendary handball player just five days ago.
As previously announced, RSCG expressed interest in hosting the event, but…
“The Handball Federation of Montenegro sent a letter of intent to the IHF to host the qualification tournament. We had assurances from a long-term sponsor that they would cover all financial costs, including a necessary bank guarantee. Unfortunately, the IHF had already concluded its selection process and awarded hosting rights to Germany,” explained the RSCG.
Alongside Germany, Hungary and Spain will also serve as hosts.
In Debrecen, Hungary will compete against Sweden, Cameroon, and Japan, while in Torrevieja, Spain will face the Netherlands, Czech Republic, and Argentina.
