The European Union’s Coordination Committee has been formed in Rožaje, enhancing the collaborative political efforts of the Social Democrats of Montenegro (SD), the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and the Liberal Party (LP) in the northern region of the country, according to an announcement from the political movement.

This decision to establish the Coordination Board came during a meeting involving the municipal boards of these parties, with a unified agreement that Rožaje requires a stable, development-focused, and inclusive political framework that will effectively advocate for the interests of all citizens.

The meeting placed special emphasis on evaluating the current situation in the municipality and the urgent need for solutions to issues in infrastructure, employment, and public services. “Our collaboration within the European Union represents a distinct alternative to divisive politics and ineffective governance. We are confident that Rožaje can and should achieve more,” the statement indicated.

It was highlighted that one of the primary objectives of the European Union in Rožaje is to dismantle the existing local government of the Bosniak Party (BS), which they claim has contributed to the dire state of affairs in the municipality.

The statement further asserted, “Equally concerning is the ideological regression at the national level, facilitated by a coalition with those who honor convicted war criminals, promote Chetnik ideology, and distort history. This political alliance does not represent the will of a civic-minded, European-oriented Montenegro or the aspirations of those who have steadfastly supported anti-fascist and multiethnic values—especially not on behalf of the Bosniak community, whom they should ideally represent.”

During the session, strategic objectives of the new board were also reviewed, including increased youth engagement, the promotion of European values, and actionable initiatives aimed at boosting the economic and social development of the municipality.

By establishing the Coordination Committee in Rožaje, we are paving the way for a more substantial political presence rooted in knowledge, accountability, and respect for diversity. The European Union is committed to building trust with the citizens by offering realistic and attainable solutions,” the statement from the EC concluded.

The meeting was led by the chairs of the municipal committees from the parties in the Alliance, Alen Kalač and Rejhan Agović. The leaders of the Alliance, Damir Šehović, Ivan Vujović, MP Branislav Nenezić, and SDP Vice President Amina Cikotić also addressed the attendees.

Additionally, new members who joined the European Union were acknowledged during this event. Earlier that day, Boris Mugoša, the president of the Social Democratic Party in Montenegro’s Parliament, conducted multiple meetings with business leaders and influential citizens from the municipality,” the statement concluded.
