The Government has approved the Immunization Measures Program for 2026-2028, designed to enhance vaccine uptake and mitigate known threats.
This inaugural document for Montenegro emphasizes protection for at-risk populations, particularly children, who are highly vulnerable to infectious diseases prevented by standard vaccinations.
“Additionally, the program aims to rebuild trust in vaccinations, particularly in areas with heightened skepticism, vaccine refusal, or restricted access to immunization services,” the announcement stated.
As noted during discussions, this initiative serves not only as a response to immediate concerns but also as a medium-term strategy to enhance public health and well-being, laying the groundwork for a safer society in the fight against infectious diseases.
“Montenegro can only reach its immunization aims through collaborative efforts across all sectors—health, education, and civil society—which will ensure improved protection and quality of life for its citizens,” the Government remarked.
During today’s meeting, alongside the Immunization Measures Program, the Government also endorsed the Action Plan for 2026-2028, requiring an allocation of 607,000 euros for its execution.
For the upcoming year, 222,300 euros is earmarked, followed by 192,350 euros for both 2027 and 2028.
The session also adopted the Agreement on Financing between the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) aimed at supporting the Cooperation Program.
The accord addresses a crucial challenge: equipping police officers with necessary gear, specifically, the procurement of police uniforms.
It was highlighted that the last purchase of uniforms for the broader Police Directorate occurred in 2016.
To execute the Cooperation Program, the Ministry of Interior announced a requirement for 4.43 million euros from the national budget.
“Funding will occur in two installments. The first installment, amounting to 1.93 million euros, is expected by mid-September this year, with the second installment of 2.5 million scheduled for late April next year,” the statement noted.
The procurement of police uniforms has been classified as a multi-year initiative within the current Budget Law, and funds for the first installment have been allocated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ spending unit.
The Government indicated that the release of the second installment is contingent on the passage of next year’s Budget Law.
