Handball brought immense joy to Montenegro in 2023. Despite challenges, the “lionesses” secured seventh place in the world rankings, while the “lions” advanced to the main round of the World Championship.

At year’s end, the Handball Association of Montenegro held its traditional awards ceremony, honoring Ivona Pavićević and Filip Krivokapić as the best in Montenegro, Tatjana Brnović and Miloš Vujović as the best abroad, and Nina Ramusović and Ilija Rafailović as the top young players.

They received their awards from Petr Kapisoda, the president of RSCG.

Ivona Pavićević, a winger for Budućnost Bemax, distinguished herself as one of the team’s top players in the Champions League and performed exceptionally well for the national team at the World Cup.

“This is a significant honor and a pleasure. I believe this award not only recognizes my current achievements but also years of hard work, dedication, and passion for handball. It’s an inspiration to strive for even greater success,” stated Ivona.

Miloš Vujović, originally from Cetinje and now playing for German Gumerzbach, was named the best player abroad. This year, with Fuhse Berlin, he secured the EHF European League trophy and was one of the standout players for the national team at the World Cup.

“I’m really thrilled; this is my second award in a row, and it confirms that I’m on the right track and making great strides,” emphasized Vujović.

Filip Krivokapić excelled in the First Montenegrin League and the European League.

“I want to thank RSCG for this award, as well as my teammates and Lovcen. Through diligent teamwork, we reclaimed the title, which consequently led to this recognition for me,” said Krivokapić.

New this season, Nina Ramusović plays for ORK Rudar, where she competed in the European Cup and was part of the national team that achieved seventh place at the European Championship for girls under 17 in Podgorica.

“I’m excited; this recognition motivates me to continue working hard and achieving success,” stated Nina.

Ilija Rafailović had remarkable performances while playing for Budva Riviera in the Cadet League of Montenegro, earning him the title of the best scorer in the competition.

“After a severe injury that I recovered from in January, thanks to my coach Dejan Dragnić, I was able to get back into shape and achieve impressive results,” shared Ilija.
