“Lions Fall to North Macedonia: Simić, Borozan, and Lazović Miss First Test Match”
In Stara Pazova today, the Montenegro men’s handball team faced a defeat against North Macedonia, with a final score of 39:37. This match marks the first of three preparatory games leading up to the European Championship in Germany.
All 16 players on the roster participated, while coach Šola opted to hold back guard Vuko Borozan and pivot Vuk Lazović, both of whom will be critical in the upcoming matches before the European Championship.
Goalkeepers Nebojša Simić and Nikola Matović, along with defender Risto Vujacić, were also absent. Given these circumstances, the performance against a North Macedonian team similarly gearing up for EHF Euro 2024 is considered a positive indicator as Montenegro prepares for its seventh appearance in European championships.
The Montenegrin handball players excelled during the second half, which they won, despite starting the break with a five-goal deficit.
Miloš Vujović led the scoring with nine goals from nine attempts, followed by Božo Anđelić with six, Vasilije Kaluđerović with five, and Miloš Božović contributing four.
Aleksandar Bakić and Arsenije Dragašević both netted three goals each.
Montenegro will face further challenges on January 4 and 5, when they compete against Croatia and Slovenia in a tournament in Poreč.
