Serbian Prime Minister Đuro Macut expressed that the final ruling against Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik, who received a one-year prison sentence along with a six-year ban on political activity, targets “not just a single individual, but the very institutions of Republika Srpska and the entire Serbian populace.”
In his statement, he conveyed his discontent with the ruling, pointing out its “particularly significant” timing coinciding with the commemoration of three decades since Operation Storm, which resulted in the expulsion of over 250,000 Serbs from Croatia.
“The effort to delegitimize the rightful pursuit of constitutional competencies for Republika Srpska, the rights of the Serbian people, and the preservation of the Dayton Peace Agreement through judicial measures is a direct assault on regional peace and stability. The Serbian people have faced numerous challenges throughout history, yet they have consistently stood tall, resolute, and united. This time will be no different; we will remain cohesive, focused on one another, as our affection for our homeland, solidarity, and fraternal bonds between the Republic of Serbia and Republika Srpska will prevail over any injustice,” stated Macut.
Macut also affirmed that the Serbian government will persist in “extending unwavering support to the people of Republika Srpska” and continuing to advocate for the rights of “all peoples and entities within the framework of internationally recognized agreements.”
