Let’s Move On and Leave the Defeat Against the Czech Republic Behind Us!
The June World Cup qualifiers proved challenging for Montenegrin football players.
The “Falcons” faced a 2:0 defeat against the Czech Republic in a match where they were clearly outmatched, particularly in the last thirty minutes after Patrik Sik scored the second goal.
This loss marked Montenegro’s first setback following two opening victories against Gibraltar and the Faroe Islands, while extending their losing streak against the Czech team, who have triumphed in all six encounters to date.
“Our aim was to break that streak against the Czechs, but we fell short. Our opponents started off strong, though it wasn’t complete domination. We conceded a goal and managed to equalize through Milan Vukotić, but unfortunately, that goal was ruled out for offside,” stated midfielder Edvin Kuč.
However, hope remains, according to the Azerbaijani Neftchi footballer.
“We must keep our spirits up as there are still five games to play. We have a rematch with the Czechs, and we are determined to achieve that historic qualification for a major tournament,” Kuč expressed.
In September, there will be a home match against the Czech Republic followed by an away game against Croatia.
“We need to put this defeat behind us quickly. I have faced Czech players and clubs, and they are a well-prepared and strong team. We need to step up our preparations for the match in September. I believe we can defeat them; technically, we certainly have the edge,” Kuč emphasized.
A friendly match against Armenia is scheduled for Monday in Nikšić, and coach Robert Prosinecki has indicated potential changes to the lineup.
“Every player will be given an opportunity; we’ll see who we can count on. Today’s football is competitive, and it won’t be easy, but I have faith we’ll come out victorious,” concluded Kuč.
