The senior women’s volleyball squad of Montenegro has journeyed to Goražde, where on Wednesday, August 6, at 19:30, they will face Bosnia and Herzegovina in the third round of Group D qualifications for the 2026 European Championship, taking place at the “Mirsad Hurić” sports hall.
Having spent a month in intensive training in Kolašin, coupled with friendly matches against the Hungarian national team, our squad is entering the final stretch of the qualification cycle with great determination. Coach Jovo Caković is clear in his expectations for a demanding match but holds confidence in the discipline, patience, and teamwork of his players.
“I anticipate a challenging match and expect total discipline from my team on the court, ensuring that every point is earned patiently and collaboratively. We studied the game between Bosnia and Latvia, noting that the Bosnia and Herzegovina team is formidable and skilled. We’ve prepared by analyzing that match since we recognize the difficulty ahead. We’ve completed serious preparations, and I trust that every player will give their all,” stated Caković.
Team captain Nikoleta Perović acknowledges the tough task that lies ahead:
“We have a crucial match against the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team. We aim for victory but recognize that we cannot underestimate our opponents—they are capable of surprising us. The team spirit is high; we’re feeling prepared and heading into this match with enthusiasm. Our training has been effective, and the test match against Hungary was significant—it helped us improve and identify areas for growth. We trust in ourselves and are prepared to take bold steps forward,” said Perović.
Due to an injury sustained during the final training session before the trip, veteran player Danijela Džaković will not be competing in Goražde. Therefore, Gordana Madžgalj will join the team in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Montenegro’s next match in the run for a spot in the European Championship will take place on August 10 in Kolašin, where they will host the Latvian national team at 19:00.
In Group D, Bosnia and Herzegovina secured a victory over Latvia with a score of 3:2 last Saturday in Riga.
The top seven teams from the qualifying groups, along with the five best second-placed teams, will earn spots in the 2026 European Championship, which will take place in Azerbaijan, the Czech Republic, Turkey, and Sweden. Notably, the hosts and the highest-ranked teams from the previous EuroVolley, including Serbia, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, France, Bulgaria, Ukraine, and Slovakia, have already claimed their slots.
The roster for the Montenegrin national team in the EuroVolley 2026 qualifiers is as follows:
Coaches: Marija Susic, Tijana Tvrdisic.
Serve Receivers: Simona Petranović, Teodora Čavić, Gordana Madžgalj, and Darja Popović.
