Judokas from Montenegro achieved remarkable success at the European Junior Cup held in Skopje over the weekend, bringing home three medals.
The junior team secured two silver medals, won by Jovana Mrvaljević and Stefan Kovinić, as well as a bronze medal claimed by Stevan Nikčević.
The Federation commented, “This outstanding performance by our juniors comes just ahead of the Balkan Junior Championships next weekend in Edirne (Turkey) and the European Junior Championships scheduled from September 4th to 7th in Bratislava (Slovakia).”
Mrvaljević faced defeat against Turkey’s Yilmaz in the final of the over 78 kg category, with Kovinić falling to Azerbaijan’s Ahmadov in the over 100 kg final.
Nikčević secured the bronze by overcoming Israel’s Mekaiton in the decisive match for third place.
Unfortunately, Andrea Turčinović did not medal this time, finishing fifth in the 78 kg category after losing her match for third place.
Jovica Rečević, president of the Judo Federation of Montenegro, expressed optimism, stating, “Next year we will host the Junior European Championships. Our performance in Skopje confirms that we will be a competitive presence at that event.”
