Andrija Mandić, the Speaker of the Montenegrin Parliament, emphasized the historically close relationship between Montenegro and Slovenia, expressing his satisfaction that both countries will soon unite within the European Union (EU).

This statement came during Mandić’s meeting with Slovenia’s State Council President, Marko Lotrič, amidst an official visit to Slovenia.

According to the Montenegrin Parliament, Mandić reaffirmed the long-standing ties between Montenegro and Slovenia, noting their shared history as part of a single state for nearly a century.

“We eagerly anticipate being reunited within the EU very soon,” Mandić stated.

Lotrič remarked that Slovenia, a genuine friend of Montenegro, remains wholeheartedly committed to supporting Montenegro’s EU membership ambitions at the earliest opportunity.

Mandić underscored that Montenegro aims to complete all negotiation chapters by the end of next year, aspiring to become the EU’s first new member by 2028.

Lotrič noted that both the National Assembly and the State Council of Slovenia had expressed support for Montenegro’s closure of negotiation chapter 5 concerning public procurement.

“The discussions also covered sustainable development, with a focus on tourism—especially eco, mountain, and rural tourism—electricity generation, green transition, and improving living conditions for citizens,” the statement revealed.

Mandić mentioned that in a short period, Montenegro has seen increases in salaries and pensions while reducing unemployment. He also highlighted the significant efforts against organized crime and corruption, which are vital for social stability and the enforcement of the rule of law.

As part of the discussions, Mandić invited Lotrič to make an official visit to Montenegro, reinforcing the friendship between the two nations.

Lotrič accepted the invitation and indicated that a delegation of Slovenian entrepreneurs would accompany him on his visit to Montenegro.
