UNESCO Status of Montenegro’s Sites Remains Secure
The Prime Minister Milojko Spajić will lead the National Commission for UNESCO.
During today’s Cabinet meeting, it was decided that Spajić will chair the Commission, which is tasked with ensuring that Montenegro’s cultural heritage sites maintain their UNESCO status over the next six months.
Sites such as Kotor, the Kotor Fortress, Durmitor National Park, and the medieval tombstones (stećci) in Žabljak and Plužine will continue to be recognized as part of the world’s most significant natural and cultural-historical treasures, as stated by the Prime Minister in a social media update.
He emphasized that the UNESCO status of these sites is secure. It represents not only recognition but also a tremendous opportunity for development. I have accepted the position of chairing the National Commission for UNESCO, and together with experts, we will make every effort to safeguard our country’s unique values and ensure they remain internationally acknowledged, he stated.
According to the revision of the decision regarding the establishment of the National Commission for UNESCO, the Prime Minister will serve as its president, while Minister of Culture Tamara Vujović will take on the role of deputy chair.
The Commission comprises a total of 26 members.
