In the starting eleven, only one goalkeeper gets selected, often leaving the backup goalkeepers with limited game time and competitive experience.
Filip Domazetović managed to gain valuable experience during Buducnost’s championship season, participating in six league matches and two Cup games, while also benefiting from training alongside the legendary Montenegrin keeper, Milan Mijatović.
Being called up to the Montenegrin youth national team at the year’s end signifies a remarkable year of growth for the 21-year-old Domazetović, culminating in a championship title.
– Our season was historic, breaking several records. Our hard work paid off, and the title we earned, alongside those records, gives us momentum heading into European competitions – said Domazetović.
Training sessions with Mijatović are a true privilege.
– Milan is a senior colleague and has supported me since before he joined Buducnost. Spending time with him is invaluable for me as a young player, and it’s a great honor to share achievements with him.
Domazetović took the non-selection for the penalty shootout in the Cup relegation match against Iskra in stride. Substituted in the 90th minute, coach Ivan Brnović later acknowledged his mistake.
– Naturally, it was tough for me at that moment. But I share a strong bond with the coach; he apologized, and mistakes happen. He continually demonstrates his trust in me throughout this season – Domazetović noted.
He believes that younger players, including himself, play a crucial role in maintaining Buducnost’s drive for victory, even after securing their title.
– I consider the game against Otranto in Ulcinj to be my standout performance this season, though there were several games last season that were equally impressive – shared the young goalkeeper.
As the club approaches its centenary and prepares for European matches, things are quite chaotic. How do the players respond?
– We are witnessing various changes beyond our control, but we are all professionals. We will do everything possible to prepare thoroughly for Europe and meet expectations.
Buducnost is seeded in the first round of Champions League qualifying.
– I believe we have a strong team, and we will aim to improve on last season’s performance. Our goal remains the same: to achieve a double crown that eluded us this season. Personally, I aim to compete for the starting goalkeeper position and make the most of every opportunity given to me.
Before the Champions League qualifiers, Domazetović has commitments with the youth national team, including friendly matches against Turkey and Azerbaijan.
– Every player has a special desire to represent their country. Receiving a call-up to the national team is significant. Playing for the youth side is a huge honor, and I look forward to the chance to defend my country’s colors – expressed Domazetović.
And looking farther ahead…
– My ambitions are high, but luck plays a substantial role in life, alongside hard work and discipline.
