The Matches Against Hungary Will Serve as a Crucial Test Before the Final Qualifiers
The Montenegrin women’s volleyball team is nearing the conclusion of their training camp in Kolašin, where they have dedicated the past 20 days to preparing for the final round of the European Championship qualifiers.
Their initial challenge is set for Saturday against the Hungarian national team, with critical matches for a spot at EuroVolley scheduled for August.
Coach Jovo Caković’s squad is diligently working towards their objective – securing a place in the European Championship.
Last year in Latvia, the national team earned a valuable point despite a 3:2 defeat, and the match against Bosnia and Herzegovina was awarded to them with an official result. Therefore, the “reds” have a significant opportunity to qualify for the European Championship for the first time in their history. The encounters with Hungary will provide an excellent opportunity to assess the team’s current form and pinpoint areas that need improvement.
Mina Dragović and her teammates are set to play their first official friendly match on Saturday at 18:00 at SC “Kolašin,” facing the Hungarian national team, a familiar opponent from the Golden League, in three closed-door encounters.
“After nearly 20 days of preparation, I can confidently say that we are training well and maintaining a stable level as a team. We’ve continued from where we left off in June, and now our squad is stronger, which boosts my confidence in our goals ahead. The upcoming friendly matches against Hungary will be an excellent gauge for what’s working well and the areas needing focus. The atmosphere in the team is fantastic, fueled by strong desire and motivation. I believe this will translate into good performances as we move forward,” stated Dragović.
The Montenegrin team will kick off the final stage of the European qualifiers on August 6 in Goražde against Bosnia and Herzegovina, and four days later, on August 10, they will host the Latvian team at the sports hall in Kolašin, starting at 19:00.
The champions of seven groups, along with the five best second-placed teams, will qualify for the tournament scheduled for the summer of 2026 in Azerbaijan, the Czech Republic, Turkey, and Sweden. Additionally, the top-ranked teams – Serbia, the Netherlands, Italy, Poland, France, Bulgaria, Ukraine, and Slovakia – have secured their positions through their performance at the previous EuroVolley.
