Since the end of January, Sutjeska has a new president: Aleksandar Popović, who was appointed by the assembly of the basketball club from Nikšić.
He takes over from Saša Miličić and immediately expressed high ambitions for Sutjeska in the near future.
“Our objectives are clear—the very top of the First Montenegrin League and a spot in the AdmiralBet ABA League. Of course, this must be coupled with a focus on youth development, promoting basketball, and revitalizing youth participation in both the sports courts and audiences at the Sports Center,” Popović stated on the club’s website.
Popović, currently the executive manager of the Directorate for IMS and General Affairs at Elektropriveda Montenegro, also revealed additional ambitions.
“Yes, we aim to establish a women’s section for KK Sutjeska, starting with youth teams and eventually forming a first team. In the upcoming period, I will exert my best effort to secure extra financial resources to support our ambitions,” Popović added.
Regarding his vision and plans, he elaborates.
“My vision for the club’s growth entails making Sutjeska a catalyst for the promotion and development of basketball in Nikšić. This will be primarily through youth engagement, followed by strengthening our organizational capacities to facilitate participation in the desired ABA League. I believe that bringing legends like Željko Obradović to the Sports Center would significantly boost sports promotion in Nikšić, a city proud of its sports heritage,” Popović said.
He notes that he found the club in a commendable condition.
“The financial stability and strong sports team are testaments to the management’s effective leadership since 2021. The current standings in the First Montenegrin League and our consistent participation in the ABA 2 League illustrate this,” concluded Popović.
