In celebration of World Environment Day, the Women’s Council of the Party of European Progress (SEP) hosted a working and social gathering in Skadar Lake National Park. The goal was to emphasize the need for conserving natural resources and remind that Montenegro must uphold its constitutional duty as an ecological state, according to the party’s announcement.
The gathered group highlighted that being an ecological state should not be mere rhetoric; it should be a serious commitment taken by institutions long ago.
According to the SEP, its Council members stress that discussions of Montenegro’s European future cannot occur while landfills contaminate our rivers, and climate change is treated merely as a protocol issue.
“A significant point of discussion was the necessity of closing negotiation chapter 27—Environmental Protection and Climate Change. This chapter is critical for Montenegro’s European integration process. The SEP Women’s Council argues that enhancing environmental protection policies is a long-term investment in the health and well-being of all citizens, as well as in tourism and quality of life. Closing Chapter 27 must be prioritized if we genuinely aspire to meet European standards and pursue sustainable development, beyond mere claims,” stated the party.
The SEP is led by Duško Marković, a former Prime Minister and senior member of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS).
The SEP Women’s Council underscores that such gatherings aim to enhance awareness of green policies and highlight that women play a crucial role as agents of change in society, particularly regarding environmental issues, health, and future quality of life.
“The Women’s Council of the Party of European Progress will persistently advocate for concrete environmental protection initiatives and demand greater accountability from institutions in fulfilling European commitments,” the statement concluded.
