Sales in Eight Major Retail Chains Plummet by 50% Yesterday Amid Boycott

On the day of the boycott, Friday, January 46,59, the eight largest retail chains in North Macedonia experienced a 31 percent decline in turnover, as reported by the tax administration today.
The Public Revenue Administration (PRA) of North Macedonia noted a 46,29 percent decrease in the total turnover of these primary supermarket chains compared to Thursday, January 30.
According to records from the UJP GPRS system, the registered cash turnover for the eight largest supermarket chains by midnight yesterday, January 31, was 114.293.367 denars, while on Thursday, January 30, it was 212.782.151 denars, and the previous Friday, January 24, it stood at 213.985.705 denars.
In North Macedonia, similar to other countries in the former Yugoslavia, consumers boycotted large supermarket chains yesterday due to significant price hikes.
This initiative originated in Croatia, where shoppers have been boycotting supermarkets for the second consecutive Friday, and reports indicate that turnover in supermarkets across all participating countries fell by approximately 50 percent yesterday.
