The NBA night was highlighted by Luka Dončić’s inaugural game for the Los Angeles Lakers, marking the start of a new chapter following the blockbuster trade that sent Dončić to Los Angeles and Anthony Davis to Dallas.
In his first game representing the storied franchise, Dončić netted 14 points, grabbed five rebounds, and dished out four assists. The Lakers triumphed over Utah with a score of 132:113, achieving their sixth consecutive win in the NBA.
“It felt truly special. Watching my teammates in recent games made me eager to join them on the court,” expressed the Slovenian star after the game.
Dončić made his return to the game after a period on the sidelines due to injury.
“I was a bit anxious. It had been years since I felt that way before a game. I hadn’t played in a while, and everything about this team was new for me. But I enjoyed my time on the court. The support from my teammates, Rob Pelinka, and team owner Jeanie Buss was tremendous. Seeing all the ‘Luka’ jerseys in the arena was a surreal experience,” Dončić said.
Before the game started, LeBron James advised Dončić to simply be himself.
“Hearing that from LeBron instills a lot of confidence in me. I got chills. It’s a unique feeling. His understanding of the game is unparalleled, and with both of us on the court, I believe it will benefit the entire team,” Dončić remarked.
The game was also attended by Dallas icon Dirk Nowitzki.
“It means the world to me that he came. Dirk is a great friend and mentor whom I have always admired. His presence here, flying in from Dallas, is incredible, and I truly appreciate it,” Dončić concluded.
