The Police Directorate is poised to maintain its strong and unwavering stance against all forms of crime, through robust strategic partnerships and operational effectiveness, stated Acting Police Director Lazar Šćepanović during a meeting with liaison officers from the German Federal Police.

During the handover of duties, Šćepanović met with Georg Geitner, the newly appointed liaison officer of the German Federal Police, and Rüdiger Stransky, the outgoing liaison officer.

According to the Police Directorate’s announcement, Šćepanović welcomed Geitner and expressed gratitude to Stransky for his enduring commitment and assistance during his tenure, which bolstered the Montenegrin police’s capabilities in combatting organized crime.

The meeting notably focused on the modernization and reform of police education, particularly in relation to the establishment of the Criminal Academy in Montenegro.

“This initiative will allow police officers to pursue higher education in the field of criminalistics, complementing their secondary education, in line with the needs of the Police Directorate and aimed at reforming, reorganizing, and qualifying personnel to support the criminal police,” the statement noted.

Šćepanović underscored the Police Directorate’s strategic commitment to delivering a unified and forceful response against organized crime, emphasizing the coordinated efforts of all organizational units, particularly through close collaboration with the Special State Prosecutor’s Office, as reflected in past results.

The Police Directorate remarked that the participants of the meeting acknowledged the importance of the upcoming period for Montenegro as it pursues EU membership.

“In this context, ongoing collaboration on the Criminal Academy project in partnership with the Police Academy and the Ministries of Internal Affairs, along with more intensified operational efforts to resolve historical criminal cases, was reiterated,” the statement added.

Šćepanović conveyed his strong confidence that the previous successful collaboration would continue with equal intensity and quality, further enhanced by new joint initiatives.

“Šćepanović particularly stressed the Police Directorate’s determination to persist in the resolute and uncompromising battle against all types of crime, through strong strategic partnerships and operational effectiveness, prioritizing the safety of citizens and Montenegro’s European aspirations,” concluded the statement.
