Veljko S. (18) was interrogated at the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade over suspicions that on January 31, 2025, around 12:00 PM, he struck two female doctors during a street blockade outside the Institute for Mental Health on Palmotićeva Street in Belgrade, causing them minor injuries.
At the hearing, Veljko S. presented his defense, after which the prosecution requested the judge of the Higher Court in Belgrade to order the suspect’s detention. This was to prevent him from influencing witnesses, committing further offenses in the near future, and to maintain public order, as announced by the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office.
He is charged with the crime of attempted aggravated murder.
“There are grounds for suspicion that Veljko S. perpetrated the crime by driving a ‘Golf’ 5 car from the direction of George Washington Street towards the Mental Health Institute, where citizens had gathered to block traffic. Initially, he halted the vehicle in front of the crowd, then reversed approximately 20 meters before stopping again. Subsequently, he accelerated the vehicle and drove forward through the gathering crowd, increasing his speed even though he knew the vehicle could potentially harm several people. At that moment, he struck the injured parties, EJ and IF, causing them to fall onto the roadway and sustain minor injuries,” states the VJT.
The driver of the “Golf,” Veljko S., attempted to flee the scene but was detained by bystanders, as reported by N1.
