He netted a goal for Montenegro against the Faroe Islands in March, and is now on the verge of a significant career milestone.
Balša Popović, goalkeeper for our national football squad, is set to join Olympiacos.
According to “Mozzartsport”, the prominent Greek club is expected to pay roughly 1.5 million euros in compensation to OFK Belgrade, Popović’s current team.
“Surprisingly to those who are uninformed. The Montenegrin national player had an outstanding season wearing the OFK Belgrade jersey and has played a key role in the team’s impressive ranking in the previous competitive season,” states the aforementioned portal.
It seems an agreement has been finalized between the two clubs, and Popović will head to Piraeus in the coming days to sign a four-year contract with Olympiacos.
In addition to “romantic” team Grbalj, Popović has also played for Arsenal from Tivat and Kolubara. He was close to a transfer to Red Star, even training with them, but, as reported by the Belgrade media, the move fell through because Popović had previously attended a Partizan basketball match.
Popović and Igor Nikić, the goalkeeper from Dečić, are anticipated to form a strong goalkeeping duo for the Montenegrin national team in the years ahead.
