Buducnost Voli has made its way back to the finals of the Montenegrin Cup, defeating Mornar 86:78 in Bijelo Polje.
Coach Andrej Žakelj expressed his satisfaction after the win, while also praising Mornar for their impressive performance.
“There are no straightforward matches in the Cup. We have five players plus the sixth, Aleksa Ilić, and this was our third game in four days, which is quite challenging. Both mentally and physically, it was tough, but we’re focused on the final, and it’s crucial to play to win. We will give our utmost effort at this moment,” said Žakelj.
Andrija Slavković, hailing from Bijelopolje, had added motivation playing in front of his home crowd.
“We anticipated it wouldn’t be an easy matchup. Mornar fielded a slightly different team, yet they definitely possess quality. Ultimately, what matters is that we came away with the win and can now focus on the final,” Slavković stated.
The Baran squad is feeling optimistic about the rest of the season. Despite a major overhaul, they successfully reached the semi-finals and left a positive impression against Buducnost.
“Playing against Buducnost is always a challenge, especially physically, but I enjoyed it. Given that this is my first professional year, competing in the Cup finals is an incredible experience for me,” commented Noa Tomason.
Mornar’s bench was led by Ivan Jelenić during the Cup.
“Budućnost utilized a unique defense that posed many challenges for us. It took some time to adjust, but later on, Noa executed it excellently. We posed a significant threat to Budućnost, and post-match, I expressed my pride in how our team fought in these two Cup matches, even with a rotation of just seven or eight players. I hope this sets a standard for what lies ahead in the ABA League,” Jelenić noted.
