Montenegro’s President Jakov Milatović expressed his belief that Berane will remain at the forefront of the transformations necessary for Montenegro: valuing honest work, ensuring the state supports all areas, and helping young people envision their futures in Berane rather than abroad.
He extended his congratulations to the local government leaders, councilors, and residents in celebration of July 21st – Berane Municipality Day.
“Berane has always embodied the spirit of Montenegro’s fight for freedom. The strength, dignity, and unyielding quest for justice are palpable in every interaction with the citizens of this town. Your region has significantly contributed to the struggle for freedom throughout Montenegrin history, with Berane’s name firmly embedded in the collective memory as a symbol of resistance, honor, and tradition,” stated Milatović.
He highlighted that Berane is a key municipality in our northeastern region – a meeting point of tradition and modern ambitions. “Its strategic location, along with the fertile Berane Basin and the Lim Valley, positions it ideally for agriculture, tourism, processing industries, and transit and logistics networks.”
In recent years, Milatović noted, Berane’s role as a health, educational, and cultural hub for that part of Montenegro has gained recognition. “The advanced healthcare infrastructure and institutional capacities enable service provision to all northern municipalities, including high schools, a Cultural Center, libraries, and museums – all of which demonstrate the city’s potential to support regional development.”
He emphasized the importance of the people – hard-working, welcoming, courageous, and committed. “They represent Berane’s most significant asset. Many of your fellow citizens excel in fields such as science, sports, art, and the economy, both domestically and abroad. Our shared mission is to create environments for these individuals to return and thrive here, in their homeland.”
Milatović acknowledged Berane’s potential, its fertile lands, and “dedicated people who simply seek a chance to earn a good living through their labor.”
“With effective governance and state support, I am confident that a bright future awaits you, where more will be achieved and lives will improve. Happy Municipal Day,” concluded the president’s congratulatory message.
