The Police Directorate urges all road users to plan their trips ahead of time and adjust their driving to the road conditions, ensuring their own safety as well as that of others on the road.
With the onset of the summer tourist season, the Police Directorate warns that increased traffic towards tourist areas in both southern and northern Montenegro could lead to occasional traffic congestion and challenging driving conditions.
It has been noted that driver fatigue, distractions, and non-compliance with traffic regulations are prevalent causes of traffic accidents.
The police specifically stress the importance of planning ahead and adapting driving to current road situations for the safety of all road users.
“We strongly advise tourists visiting Montenegro to avoid setting out on their journeys during late evening hours. Regular breaks during travel are advised, as exhaustion and drowsiness are among the leading causes of serious traffic incidents involving tourists during the summer,” stated the Police Directorate.
The Police Directorate emphasized that, while they implement all possible preventive and enforcement measures to minimize serious traffic accidents, they cannot be omnipresent at every location where traffic violations occur.
They also reported that four foreign citizens lost their lives in traffic incidents on Montenegro’s roads today.
“Hence, we once again request that all driversReflect on their driving habits before hitting the road or entering their vehicles. Refraining from speeding and reckless driving is essential; through responsible actions, everyone can protect themselves and other road users at risk,” the statement added.
Furthermore, the Police Directorate pledged to take all necessary actions within their authority, increasing their officers’ presence as much as possible, to ensure the smooth and safe flow of traffic as well as the safety of both citizens and tourists in Montenegro.
