After a year off, the Montenegrin Cup trophy has returned to its familiar home.
Budućnost Voli triumphed over SC Derbi with a score of 105:104 in a thrilling final held in Bijelo Polje, marking their 17th cup victory.
“Honestly, I’m unsure where the players found this much energy. We played with only six players, and this was our fourth game in five days,” remarked Andrej Žakelj, the coach of the “blue and whites”, to RTCG.
The team’s standout player was McKinley Wright, scoring an impressive 34 points.
“He was observing with one eye, and I must commend him for his energy and bravery. I congratulate the team on winning the trophy and SC Derbi for their performance, as well as the organizers. We have been playing well for the past two months, enjoying good chemistry. Our motivation, energy, and composure paid off,” added Žakelj.
SC Derbi bid farewell to the trophy they claimed last year, but they still performed admirably.
“I believe the audience witnessed exceptional basketball. Budućnost celebrated thanks to players who excel in both the AdmiralBet ABA League and the Eurocup, particularly Wright and Fletcher Magee. We held our own, and I think we delivered a top-notch final,” stated Petar Mijović, head of the “students” section. He continued:
“Perhaps we fell short defensively, but it’s tough to defend against players of such caliber. I extend my congratulations to Budućnost and hope we can keep this momentum going for more matches like this this season.”
