“We Were Fired Up Before the Match—We Can Do Even Better Moving Forward!”

For two consecutive years, Montenegrin water polo athletes have exited the World Championship in the quarterfinals, hitting the crossbar in their final attack.
Last summer in Budapest, Bogdan Đurđić’s shot against Spain for the equalizer was thwarted by the crossbar, and today in Fukuoka, Miroslav Perković’s attempt against Greece met the same fate.
“It was a good game that ended poorly for us. We were competitive, but ultimately it came down to that one shot—Dimitrios Skubakis scored from a nearly impossible angle, while I hit the crossbar. Luck just wasn’t on our side,” reflected Perković after the match.
Our center feels Montenegro could have performed better in this match.
“Definitely, but I believe many players, including myself, were eager and motivated before the game. We were all focused on this match, and despite everything, it was a solid performance,” Perković added.
There were positive aspects to take from Fukuoka…
“We defeated the European champions in the round of 16, and I believe we deserved at least a draw against the Olympic silver medalists today. I’m confident we can achieve more, and I hope we will,” Perković concluded.
