Over the weekend, Montenegrin authorities apprehended 64 drivers for attempting to operate vehicles while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, in addition to other major infractions related to the Road Traffic Safety Law, according to the Police Directorate.
According to police reports, there were 47 traffic incidents recorded on the roads of Montenegro from Friday to Sunday, resulting in four serious injuries and twelve minor injuries.
The report noted that traffic police issued 1,230 citations to road users, initiated 140 misdemeanor cases, and temporarily confiscated 17 pairs of license plates.
“Among the detained individuals, 42 were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, 21 for drug use, and one for other severe violations of the Road Traffic Safety Act,” the report detailed.
The highest number of arrests occurred in Podgorica with 14 drivers, followed by Danilovgrad with nine, and Kotor with six.
The authorities reminded that since May 9, a temporary ban has been in place for heavy trucks, buses, and campers on specific routes, urging drivers of these vehicles to review the Order and adhere to the restrictions.
The police stated they will continue with planned local and national initiatives to enhance traffic control, particularly focusing on motorcyclists, motorbikes, and young drivers.
“We urge all drivers to comply with traffic regulations and ensure their vehicles are in good technical condition, keeping in mind the potential dangers of traffic incidents caused by them, as well as the legal consequences of driving without valid documentation or equipment,” the police cautioned.
