The Higher State Prosecutor’s Office in Podgorica has initiated the detention of Nikola Čvorović for a duration of up to 72 hours. He was apprehended yesterday on allegations of assaulting an individual, alongside two accomplices, in the Zabjelo district of Podgorica before stealing the victim’s purse, as reported unofficially by “Vijesti.”

Čvorović, who led the Party of European Progress in the recent Nikšić elections, is accused of assaulting the victim, referred to as BS, last night with two unidentified individuals. One of them reportedly stole a purse from the victim’s car, which contained a wallet, keys, and a mobile phone.

The prosecution intends to request the investigating judge to impose a detention period of up to 30 days, citing flight risk. This concern is heightened due to Čvorović owning a company in France, and his history of prior convictions for violent acts.

Srđan Vuković, Čvorović’s defense attorney, refrained from commenting on the ongoing case.

The Police Directorate announced last night that they had initiated comprehensive measures within their capabilities to clarify the incident. They informed the prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Podgorica, who categorized the offense as robbery, leading to Čvorović’s arrest on their orders.
