Bojana Popović Reflects on Denmark’s Nine-Point Lead: “The Score Doesn’t Reflect the Match”

Odense decisively defeated Buducnost in front of a few hundred fans at the “Mtel Morača Hall” during Group B, Round 12 of the EHF Champions League – 24:33.
Despite a challenging performance from her team, head coach Bojana Popović feels the final score doesn’t reflect the true nature of the match.
“We lacked aggression in defense and didn’t commit enough fouls against a skilled opponent. We gave them too much freedom and allowed them easy scoring opportunities. We attempted to make adjustments as the match progressed, but Odense has numerous outstanding players who consistently found solutions. We narrowed the gap several times in the second half, but those moments were interrupted by suspensions. I believe the final outcome isn’t a true representation of the match, as the score difference is too significant given what transpired over the 60 minutes. However, we needed more defensive energy and additional saves from our goalkeepers,” Popović stated.
Only Jelena Radivojević stood out, shining as the top performer with 10 goals against the team competing for second place in Group B.
“In the match preview, I mentioned that Odense might have the best attack in the Champions League. We struggled to counter their impressive offense. At times, we were close to fully connecting, but then we faced a few sending-offs. With two matches left in the group, we will strive for a spot in the round of 16,” Radivojević added.
