The Budućnost women’s handball team is set to face Brest on Saturday during the 13th round of the EHF Champions League. In their first encounter at “MTEL Morača Hall,” the “blues” delivered one of their poorer performances, ultimately losing 35:22.
Brest has achieved seven wins and suffered six losses in the prestigious European competition, while Budućnost has registered a single win and a draw in the Champions League so far.
Center back for the “blues,” Nikolina Marković, is optimistic about a markedly improved performance from her side.
“We will not let the outcome of the first match against Brest repeat itself. It’s crucial for us to minimize technical errors and capitalize on the opportunities we create. Additionally, we need to maintain a compact and aggressive defense, scoring goals through counterattacks,” Marković stated, adding:
“We give our all in every training session. I have faith in our ability to win against Brest. We play well and are generally competitive while we have our stamina; however, our opponents tend to exploit our fatigue due to having a ‘short bench.’ Nonetheless, it’s vital that we perform well in this match against Brest as we prepare for the most significant game of the season – in Podgorica against Rapid,” Marković concluded.
Sakari Hauge, the goalkeeper for the “blues,” acknowledges Brest as a formidable opponent.
“Brest is an excellent team with talented players, so I anticipate a challenging match. I believe we can improve on our previous performance against Odense. I feel optimistic because we are training well, synchronizing our efforts, and giving our utmost,” Hauge expressed.
