The Journey to Eurobasket: Uncertain but Real

Montenegrin basketball players faced a decisive loss against Germany in the second-to-last round of EuroBasket qualifiers, ending with a score of 95:76.

This victory secured Germany’s spot in the European Championship, while Montenegro finds itself in a tough position, with the final round set to be crucial. Boško Radović’s team will compete against Sweden on Sunday, while Germany will take on Bulgaria.

Currently, after five rounds, both Montenegro and Germany hold a record of three wins and two losses, with Bulgaria and Sweden trailing by one win.

A victory against Sweden would guarantee Montenegro’s advancement to the European Championship, and they might even qualify in case of a loss.

This scenario would require Bulgaria to defeat Germany on their home court, allowing Montenegro to retain the worst goal difference in the group—only then would our national team advance.

The contest at “Morača” had no uncertainties, as the world champion effortlessly confirmed their favored status, leading by 12 points at halftime and stretching their advantage to 20 at the outset of the third quarter, leaving Montenegro without a response.

Marko Simonović emerged as the standout player for Montenegro, scoring 22 points, while Vladimir Mihailović added 18. Đorđije Jovanović contributed nine points, including three consecutive three-pointers…

For Germany, Johannes Thiemann scored 16, Tibor Plajs 14, and Isak Bonga 13…
