The Inquiry Committee of the Parliament of Montenegro has officially endorsed the Democrats’ proposal to look into the severe beating of Milorad Mio Martinović, which took place in October 2015, as announced today by the MP of the Democratic Party of Montenegro, Momčilo Leković.
He stated that it has become clear after yesterday’s proceedings that the Inquiry Committee is already demonstrating its effectiveness by impartially and thoroughly investigating all relevant cases, thereby creating an opportunity for institutional accountability and truth.
“I must highlight that Mr. Milan Paunović’s testimony yesterday has, without question, opened Pandora’s box in Montenegro. His readiness, as a member of the system, to disclose information to the Committee about issues that have remained unspoken and cloaked in secrecy for years, sends a powerful message encouraging those who possess knowledge but have hesitated to speak out. As I mentioned yesterday, I believe that in the coming sessions of the Inquiry Committee, we will see numerous individuals willing to share their insights in the name of justice and the public interest. I eagerly anticipate what will be revealed as the Inquiry Committee continues its work, both in the Martinović case and in other matters requiring truth, justice, and accountability. The era of truth and justice is finally approaching Montenegro. This is a process that cannot be halted,” said Leković.
