I am a shade closer to the option of electing a new government, I will not withdraw my resignation

“I’m Growing More Open to Electing a New Government; My Resignation Stands Firm”

Miloš Vučević, the president of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), announced that he will not retract his resignation as Prime Minister of Serbia, indicating he is “a shade closer” to favoring the formation of a new government over calling for new elections.

“Let’s aim to form a new government and avoid new elections. While elections can’t be entirely ruled out, especially in politics, I believe that for Serbia, given our numerous responsibilities, it would be more beneficial to elect a new government within the next month or so, rather than get caught up in lengthy campaigns,” Vučević expressed at an SNS gathering in Temerin.

He mentioned that being offered the prime minister’s mandate again is unrealistic and not on the table.

“I wouldn’t return to the mandate just to seek a new one. Instead, I would request a comprehensive reconstruction of the Government from the President of the Republic,” Vučević said.

He emphasized the need to identify a “considerable” number of new ministers for the government, indicating that there are “quite a few” individuals who have remained silent regarding recent events in Serbia over the past three months.

“Many have sought refuge from the difficult discussions… Let’s activate those discussions and determine who might collaborate with us. It’s possible the new government could involve some individuals from the Movement (for the people and the state). This will not be a transitional government; it will be a Serbian government,” Vučević stated.

He noted that while elections are always a possibility, the SNS is not avoiding them, and he feels it is more prudent to focus on electing a new government instead.

Vučević described resigning from the Prime Minister position as the best choice for Serbia, not for his personal interests, affirming that he would continue to lead the SNS.

“I’m not going anywhere, and I don’t plan to go anywhere—only to be here with you,” Vučević told the party members at the forum in Temerin.
