OSCG and MERS Enter into Memorandum of Cooperation
The Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development, and Northern Development has formed a partnership with the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro by signing a memorandum aimed at advancing the goals of the Program for Raising Awareness and Public Information regarding the detrimental effects of plastic bags on the environment.
This Memorandum, intended to foster cooperation in establishing a comprehensive, sustainable, and eco-friendly waste management system, was signed by Minister Damjan Ćulafić and Nikola Kažić, the President of the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro.
The Program receives funding based on a legal requirement mandating that retailers of lightweight plastic carrier bags with a wall thickness exceeding 50 microns pay a special fee of €0.03 per bag. This fee contributes to the Environmental Protection Fund.
“By signing this memorandum, we reaffirm our dedication to creating an effective and sustainable waste management system, as well as enhancing public awareness about the adverse impacts of plastic bags. Together with local communities, sports organizations, businesses, and international partners, we are laying the groundwork for an environmentally responsible future for Montenegro,” stated Minister Ćulafić.
The memorandum’s signatories agreed to enhance collaboration by sharing information, providing advice, and offering support in drafting strategic planning documents. They will also prepare studies, reports, and programs for the development and execution of projects, while organizing periodic meetings to exchange information, experiences, and insights.
Furthermore, the development of this mutual cooperation includes designing and implementing media campaigns, organizing seminars, public debates, roundtables, conferences, and other events focused on waste management, as well as planning and executing projects of shared interest. The goal is to foster cooperation in building an efficient, sustainable, and environmentally friendly waste management system.
