During a series of 533 business compliance inspections conducted from May 1 to June 22, tax officials discovered irregularities in 93 tax accounts, resulting in fines totaling 544.1 thousand euros.
“The most common issues involved the failure to issue fiscal invoices, constituting a breach of Article 10 of the Law on Fiscalization related to Product and Service Sales,” stated the Tax Administration (TA), noting that 149 citations for misdemeanors were issued based on these findings.
The total outstanding debt from these citations is 245.43 thousand euros, of which 130.74 thousand euros, or 53 percent, has been recovered.
To enhance communication and foster trust, the Tax Administration urged all taxpayers to comply with legal requirements, accurately report their income, and issue fiscal invoices.
“This facilitates the development of a responsible taxation system and a stable, transparent business environment in Montenegro,” announced the Tax Administration.
Furthermore, citizens were encouraged to report any suspected irregularities by contacting the call center at 19707 or using the Budi izdavanje platform.
The Tax Administration also revealed that its Operational Sector for inspection supervision has intensified efforts to ensure compliance among taxpayers engaging in seasonal activities, particularly in hospitality and retail.
“The aim of these initiatives is to combat the informal economy, enhance tax compliance, and ensure legal business operations throughout the summer tourist season,” explained the PI.
Special attention has been given to providers of private accommodation, catering establishments, beach bars, and other service-related businesses that see increased activity during the summer months. Priority will be granted to sectors identified as high-risk through prior analyses and citizen feedback.
